Apple Watch faults we repair
The problems we see most, roughly in order:
- a cracked or shattered front, whether or not the display still works
- a display lifting at one edge, almost always a swelling battery underneath
- battery life that now lasts only part of a day
- a watch that won't charge, or won't stay on its charger
- a digital crown that won't turn or feels gritty, usually from sweat and dust
- touch that works on parts of the screen but not others
- water inside after swimming, a shower or the gym
Something else wrong? Book it anyway and describe the symptom. The diagnosis is free, and we would rather tell you a watch can't be repaired than leave you guessing.
The fault not to leave
A screen lifting at the edge, a gap you can see light through, or a watch that suddenly sits higher in its case: that is a swelling battery, not a loose screen. Stop wearing it and stop charging it.
A swelling lithium cell keeps growing. Given time it forces the display out until the panel cracks, turning a battery replacement into a battery and display replacement, and while it is strapped to your wrist it is a fire risk. Of all Apple Watch faults, this is the one where a week really matters.
What makes a cracked watch screen costly
Most people know a phone's glass and display are one bonded part. On an Apple Watch that part is smaller and more tightly packed, and it carries the touch layer and, on most models, the force-touch gasket, all in a component that has to seal against water.
In practice that means there is no budget version of the repair: a cracked front means a new display assembly. It is also why your watch decides the price. A 38mm Series 3 and a 49mm Ultra are different jobs, and averaging them into one published figure would mislead the owners of both.
Before you book
Check which watch you have. On the watch, Settings, General, About shows the model and case size, and the Watch app on your iPhone shows the same. It is the first thing we ask, and it decides the price.
Make sure the watch is backed up through its paired iPhone. If the display is unusable, your Health and activity history is already on the phone, not only on the watch. Book with the symptom described and we collect the watch free, along with the phone if that needs attention too. Why don't you list Apple Watch repair prices?
Because a single figure would be wrong for most watches. Parts vary widely by generation, size and case material, and a cracked screen on a Series 3 is a very different job from the same damage on a Series 9 or an Ultra. So we diagnose your watch free and give you the price for yours.
The screen is lifting at one edge. Is it the screen?
Usually it's the battery underneath swelling and pushing the display out of the case. Stop wearing and charging the watch, and book it in. A swollen lithium battery is a real hazard, and the pressure will eventually crack the display, turning a battery job into a battery and screen job.
Can you replace only the glass?
On most models, no. The glass, the OLED panel and the touch layer are bonded into one part, and we won't promise to separate them reliably. A cracked screen therefore means a new display assembly, which is also why the price depends so much on your watch.
Is the watch still water resistant after a repair?
Less than it was. Opening the case breaks the factory seal, and although we reseal what we open, treat a repaired watch as no longer rated for swimming or diving. If you swim with it, mention that when you book and we'll discuss it.
My watch won't charge, or keeps slipping off the charger.
First try another charging puck and plug, and check the back of the watch and the puck for dirt or a leftover sticker. If it still won't hold a connection, it's worth a look: the charging coil, the battery and the board could each be the cause, and each needs a different repair.
Do you fix bands or scratches on the case?
A band is something you can replace yourself for far less than any workshop would charge, so we'll tell you that rather than take the job. Scratches on the case or the screen can't be polished out of a bonded display; that would be a display replacement, and we'll be honest about whether it's worth it.
