Windows laptops don't come in a handful of variants like phones do. One model name can cover a dozen configurations with different screens, batteries, keyboards and boards, so "a 15-inch Dell" isn't enough to order a part against.

Every manufacturer prints a unique identifier underneath: a Service Tag on a Dell, a serial and product number on an HP, a Machine Type Model on a Lenovo, a serial on Asus and Acer. Give us that when you book and we can confirm the exact screen, battery and keyboard your laptop takes before you are quoted. Without it, a quote is only an estimate and the part ordered may not fit, which is the usual reason a laptop repair drags on for a week.

Laptop panels differ in resolution, refresh rate, brightness, touch support and connector, which can be 30-pin or 40-pin. A panel that fits physically can still be the wrong one: putting a 1366x768 panel into a laptop that came with a 1080p IPS screen is a downgrade you would notice every day, and it is a common way an unusually low quote gets its low price.

We quote for the panel that matches what your laptop shipped with. If you would like a different specification, we talk it through with you before the repair, so there is no substitution for you to discover later.

Many laptops that reach us described as slow, or as switching themselves off, have nothing wrong with their software. Fine dust forms a mat over the heatsink fins, airflow drops, the processor throttles to protect itself, and everything crawls. When a laptop moves between strong air conditioning and outdoor humidity all day, it happens faster than the designers planned for.

Taking the cooling assembly apart, clearing it properly and replacing the dried thermal compound costs little next to a board repair, and it is worth ruling out before anyone tells you the laptop needs replacing.

Laptops sold in the UAE carry Arabic and English characters on the same keys; laptops bought elsewhere often don't.
