The screen, or something behind it?
Not every dark or flickering display needs a new panel, and a few quick checks reveal most of the story before anyone opens the laptop:
- Connect an external monitor or TV. A clean picture there means the laptop itself is fine and the fault is in the lid: the panel, its cable or the hinge area.
- Shine a phone torch at the dark screen from an angle. If you can just make out a faint image, the panel is drawing a picture with no backlight behind it.
- Move the lid slowly through its range. A picture that cuts in and out with the angle points to the display cable where it runs through the hinge, not the panel.
- No picture on the laptop or on an external monitor points away from the screen altogether, towards the graphics or the board.
Cracks, a black ink-like patch spreading from one point, and coloured vertical lines that stay put when you move the lid are faults in the panel itself. They don't recover, and they tend to spread.
What sets the price of a laptop screen
Two laptops with the same screen size can need panels at very different prices. The factors:
- size and resolution, from 1366x768 through Full HD to QHD and 4K
- panel type, TN, IPS or OLED, which shapes the colour and viewing angles you see every day
- refresh rate: 60 Hz on most laptops, 120 or 144 Hz and above on gaming models
- touch or non-touch, and whether the glass is bonded to the panel
- the connector and the bracket positions, which decide whether a panel fits at all

Check the hinges before fitting a new screen
A surprising number of cracked laptop screens were broken by the laptop itself. When a hinge seizes, or its mounting inside the lid breaks loose, opening the lid twists the panel until it cracks, usually from a bottom corner. Fit a new panel into that lid and it cracks the same way within weeks.
If the lid has gone stiff, creaks, or the bezel is pulling away near a hinge, tell us when you book. Where a hinge or its mounting is to blame, we tell you what that involves and costs alongside the screen, so you don't end up paying for the same panel twice.
Until it's repaired
Don't press on a cracked panel, and don't close the lid on anything lying on the keyboard: the crack spreads under pressure, and on a touch model, broken glass can start registering touches by itself. A cracked screen that still shows a picture is fine to keep using gently. If the picture is unusable, an external monitor keeps you working and lets you back up first.
After you book
We collect the laptop free, or you drop it off at our Deira workshop. The panel is matched against the machine itself rather than the model name, then fitted and tested before the laptop comes back to you at no charge. Each stage shows on repair tracking. How do I get a price for my laptop screen?
Book with the brand and the model number printed underneath the laptop. If we publish a price for your model, you see it while booking. If we don't, we inspect the laptop free at our workshop, identify the exact panel it takes, and then confirm the repair and its price.
Can I use an external monitor until it's fixed?
Usually, yes. If the laptop still runs, a monitor or TV on the HDMI or USB-C port shows the picture, and the Windows key with P switches the output. It's also the easiest way to back up before you send the laptop in.
Does a screen replacement affect my data?
No. The screen and the drive are separate parts, and replacing the screen doesn't open, erase or reinstall anything. A backup before any repair is still a good idea.
Can you repair a touchscreen laptop?
Yes, though it's often a different part. On many touch and 2-in-1 models the glass, touch layer and panel are bonded into one assembly, and on some the whole lid comes as one unit. That's why we identify touch models exactly before giving a price.
Can you fit a better screen than the original?
Sometimes. A higher-resolution or IPS panel only works if the laptop's display cable and board support it, and many budget models were built with a cable that doesn't. Ask when you book: we check what your model accepts before quoting, and by default we match the original specification.
